There’s a lot to assess when school begins. You want to focus on building community, establishing routines and procedures, but you also can’t ignore all the assessments you need to do. It can feel overwhelming. The best way I have found to assess, is to have a simple checklist. There are skills kids can do or can’t. Sometimes I want to take notes as well, and I just attach sticky notes to the back of my clipboard for that.

Here is the simple checklist I use. I adjust it based on skills I think I can assess for that day.
